José Saramago (versão em inglês)
José Saramago was a Portuguese writer and Nobel Prize winner in Literature in 1998. He was born in 1922 in Azinhaga, Portugal, and grew up in a rural environment. Saramago worked as a mechanic, a metalworker, and a journalist before dedicating himself entirely to writing in the 1960s.
His literary career began with poetry, but he gained international recognition with his novels, which are characterized by their experimental style and philosophical themes. Some of his most famous works include "Blindness," "The Gospel According to Jesus Christ," and "Death with Interruptions."
Saramago's writing often challenged traditional literary conventions, including punctuation and paragraph structure. He also frequently used long, complex sentences and incorporated elements of magical realism into his stories.
In addition to his writing, Saramago was also an outspoken political activist and critic of the Portuguese government. He passed away in 2010 at the age of 87, leaving behind a legacy as one of Portugal's most celebrated writers.
